Vista wireless connectivity
Same Vista wireless connectivity problem as many others: intermittent connectivity. When the network drops off, most times only a reboot will get it back. After reading a hundred of these, I'm convinced it's not hardware. All types of PCs, wireless cards, and routers are represented. Our own experience is with a new Dell E520 with Vista factory-installed, Belkin F5D7000 ver. 7000 wireless card, and US Robotics USR5461 MaxG router. All drivers are current. Global autotuning is disabled. Windows XP and 2000 machines connect flawlessly. In summary, Vista shows low signal strength where XP, etc. show higher; and Vista connects not at all or drops the signal regularly.
RE: Wireless drop-off with Vista Basic
I have the same problem, two weeks ago we bought a HP6040 with Vista Premium and not long after we turned it on, we experienced disconnects.
It is not hardware-related, every setting i could tweak is tweaked but still it disconnects. this isn't accepteble, imagine you are watching online content by MediaCenter and your favorite program hangs because some OS doesn't know how to keep your wireless connection connected.....
Vista and wifi hot spots, (unsecurred)
I have not been able to get either of my Vista PC's to connect to certain wireless hotspots. I am using both a new Toshiba Satellite and a Presario, running Vista home premium and Vista home basic. Neither one will connect to certain hotspots no matter what I configure. HP has a ticket open and if I get any info, I will pass it on. I think this is a router/device/vista problem and not associated with any make or model of PC. If anyone has the same problem, please post and I'll try to help the HP folk figure it out.
I got the same problem with
I got the same problem with my HP 6710b and the 3945ABG Intel wireless card. I cannot connect to certain unsecured wireless networks - I have updated the driver for the Intel device and tried 100 other things but nothing works here. I am fed up with Vista Biz x64
Losing Internet access now that Vista is installed
With my HP Pavillion a1650y, which ran fine with WinXP, I now lose wireless connectivity running Vista using a Linksys WRT54GS router. Local access stays, but Internet access is dropped. I found that I just have to login to my router and do a DHCP Release / Renew and everything immediately starts working again (even though my router config shows that it has an IP address already). I do this about 5 times a day now that Vista has been installed.
Gateway, Vista, wifi
I was recently on the road staying at a hotel that had free wifi connection. I could not connect up with my Gateway Vista with built in wifi, to their unsecured wifi network. Tried going to front desk area, removing any firewalls, etc. At the same time a friend was using her Apple with built in wifi and having no trouble connecting.
Another day I stayed at a Holiday Inn and had not trouble getting into the free unsecured wifi network.
I also use the laptop at home with my personal wifi secured network without any problems.
Makes me think there is a Vista wifi network problem.
I have a brand new Dell 1705
I have a brand new Dell 1705 and have run into the same problem - with a Linksys WRT54GX and an Intel 3945 adapter.
My connection drops after about an hour or so of use. Sometimes it comes back with a reboot of the laptop, other times I need to recycle the router. Argh!
My older Win XP laptop keeps chugging away for hours with no problems.
My suspicion is the power profile - but I've tried running it only with the power adapter, and even with max power settings when on the battery. Nothing seems to have much effect.
Called Dell support - not much help.
New Sony Vaio running Vista Biz will not connect either
I have a brand new Vaio SZ430. I boot it up. It does not see any wireless networks when my older Vaio running XP Pro sees them immediately at boot up. Is there a solution other than strangling Bill Gates?
Vista Biz on VAIO sz430 drops wifi regularly
I have the same problems:
- Hard to detect wifi networks,
- If connected, signal level display is lower than neighbor laptops running XP,
- Vista drops the wifi regularly in indefinite intervals.
The drivers are updated, I disabled the wifi adapter power-management(ability of vista to turnoff wifi adapter automatically), and all other tweaks, but the problems are still there.
yep, so i dumped my vista
and went back to XP Pro. i'm not here to do the product testing for microsoft while they take months if not years to get it together. how bright does one have to be to understand that connecting wirelessly should be even BETTER with vista, not worse.
Intel 3945ABG wifi + Vista = dropouts, but + Linux = OK
I got an ASUS G1 with 3945ABG built in running Vista Ultimate. Constant network dropouts, as many have reported. Though interestingly, I configured the laptop to dual boot with Ubuntu linux and have NEVER experienced a single dropout when running Ubuntu.
It's gotta be either the driver or something to do with Vista network config... Yet to find a solution, so in the meantime, Linux rox!
WIFI connection problems with Vista
I have the same problem. Acasionally Vista just loses de internet connection. When I try to refresh the connection using the network centre Vista just hangs. I can use other programs but not the network centre. It looks like a reboot is the only way to solve this... and that is of course crap.
@ Tom: I figured out what the problem is if you want to connect to a public WIFI network. the windows firewall is blocking the connection. If you want to use the public WIFI turn of your firewall en see if it works.
Wireless probelm observation
in my experience with this i have noticed with the WEP key that the last 2 digits of it are dropped in the sequence. i ahve found that if you re enter the key it solves the problem. i am awaiting a fix for this problem and would like to know of any possible solution. Vista blows!!!!!
I've got the same problem
I've got the same problem with Samsung R40P+Vista Home Basic.
I've got the same problem
I've got the same problem with wireless connection on my Vista computer. I've tried to use both my Vista computer and my XP computer at the same time and the XP machine works great all the time even when the Vista machine has lost connection to the router.
Damn Microsoft, is it so hard to build a new OS?
Hey
How can you fix it? i have had the same problem
answer for wireless drop in vista
see the ms doc:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928152/en-us
All incarnations of Vista
All incarnations of Vista work equally bad if your laptop or desktop for that matter is plugged into a power source or not. The real 'workaround' is for Microsoft to bring a product to market that IMPROVES on the one it replaces. In terms of wirelessley connecting, VISTA does NOT. What did the dev team do for three years? Sit on their ass and not consider that people in laptops might want to connect to wireless networks or hot spots? Some heads should roll for this screw-up!
Vista/Wireless
Hi. I bought a gateway a couple of months ago, and my drivers are updated. My internal wireless card does not work at all at certain hotspot locations. Can Anybody help? I am using Vista home premium.
thanx- AARON -
Guys, I have updated WiFi
Guys, I have updated WiFi card driver and it started to work!!!
Looks like Samsung is supplying old drivers or maybe they took to the account Vista problems and have corrected something. Anyways - if you have Aeros 5005G - adapter - go and download the latest soft.
The MS link refers to
The MS link refers to portables running on battery power. My problems, and many others I've seen, are on desktops. The problem description is, however, accurate.
I have the same problem with
I have the same problem with a HP Labtop which I bought just 2 weeks ago. Every time I turn on the computer trying to connect to Internet through the router which is Netgear, I have to reset the router.Otherwise, it shows just local connectivity.
Vista- Lost Internet connection but Local remains
I did this (link below) and it seems to have fixed the problem. Auto-tuning is turning it off and it doesn't want to come back.

No wireless log on possible...
Yeah with my new Toshiba Satellite, Windows Vista Basic, I cannot log on even onto my own personal router. I'm about to back-install to XP soon if I can't get this stuff to work. When I select "CONNECT" instaead of allowing me to log on, it simply diagnoses it as a problem and suggests I log on to a different router.....pffff!
Same problem with Toshiba
Same problem with Toshiba machine.

i cannot connect to the
i cannot connect to the wireless network with my dell xps vista home ed. when there is a wep key, as soon as i turn off the security setting of my router (netgear), i can connect with no pb. i have no problem with my old sony win xp home ed. though. and one more thing: some passwords (i see no consistancy) i choose are not accepted by my new dell+vista machine, as if i had used un-allowed characters in them (which is of course not the case). anyone has/had the same pb ? any ideas what i need to do ?
same here. WinXP no problem
same here. WinXP no problem at all. although i can connect Windows Vista Home Basic using my netgear 11 mbps router and then Linksys 54 Mpbs router, i get a weak signal always. 3 out of 5 bars even if i am inches away from the router. Acer changed the wireless internal antenna. still 3 out of 5 bars signal. they told me to reinstall windows vista. what a hassle. I did not do so because its not a guarantee that the signal will improve.
Wireless drop off With new Toshiba A200 and Vista
Auto look up for new driver for a Toshiba A 200 running Intel WiFi card says no new driver available....but the Toshiba site lists a new driver which can be installed......so far no drop outs.

vista wireless connectivity
have tried and tried to connect to my router (d-link) and can only get it to connect on odd ocassions but when i added a Belkin AP Vista will connect no problem.
So, my answer is to run with an AP.
Hope this helps.
Windows Vista and Wireless fix
I have a Dell XPS M1201 with an Intel 3945abg. Here at college (www.gvsu.edu), we have a wireless network. For a long time, I had issues of Vista dropping the network. After from coming from idle, I had no internet. I was connected with limit connectivity. I finally found out why. Windows Firewall does not allow Incoming ECHO Requests. All you have to do is open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, go to Inbound Rules, and enable the rule named "File and Printer Sharing (ECHO Request - ICMPv4-In)". If you use IPv6, enable "File and Printer Sharing (ECHO Request - ICMPv6-In)".
Hopefully this will solve many of the networking issues that many of you are having.
Good luck.
F*&% Vista, I am headed back to XP. It sucks, it is slow...grrr
what is WRONG with Microsoft?
WiFi drop off with Vista Home Premium
What a nightmare......finally solved the drop off problem......new driver to the Intel 4965AGN PCI mini card did NOT solve the problem......
All Firewall related...disabled the CA Firewall in ISS 2007.......upgraded (free with current subscription yet to expire) to CA ISS 2008.....still did not work......
Drilled down to the CA Knowledge base.......which takes some drilling.....not immediately visible that CA have an update for ISS 2008 Firewall. Installed update....and no more drop outs.....
Drop outs....not abeing able to 192.168......the WiFi router are all Firewall related problems.
Have kept the Vista Firewall disabled as well just for good measure. The CA ISS 2008 Firewall works fine now.
Here is the link in CA for Ca users to update the ISS 2008 Firewall....not easy to find. You would think that CA could at least make this prominent on their home page...bought a new router fo no reason.....

My sister's laptop had the
My sister's laptop had the same problem. We both have Gateways with vista. My wireless was working perfect and her's was "identifying the internet" So after about 2 hours of messing around on her laptop I finally decided to update the wireless driver software, after finding it somewhere on a thread online for the same wireless problem. Of course, I had to plug the laptop directly into the router for it to have internet. I let windows search online by itself for any new software and after about 3 minutes it found it and updated the software. After about 2 minutes the wireless showed up and the internet worked. I was hesitant so I rebooted and it worked fine. I also disconnected the wireless and reconnected it and it worked.
My problem and solution might help others.
The steps to it:
Control Panel
Device Manager
Click on the "+" for Network adapters
Go to your wireless device
right click, it should say "Update driver software..."
Click search automatically for updated software
Do that and hopefully it'll find the software and install it
It should work after that. Hope it helps some of you! :)
Same problem
It happens the same to me using a new Sony Vaio running Vista, everybody at college connect wirelessly using Xp but I can't running Vista, Thanks in advance if you get the solution and post it.
Wireless Connection
I have the same problem, however my Toshiba with Vista connects ust fine with my wireless netwrok however, the new HP laptop that I bought does not connect Wirelessly.
It connects fine with Ethernet cable, ad will not connect on wireless. Can some one please help.
My Toshiba is running on Vista Home and HP on Vista business. I have set up the netwrok 100 times, chaging the access points....maing toshiba the access point and than HP. but toshiba will connect fine, while HP will not connect on Wireless. ( I am using Netgear, HP connects fine with my office Wireless network.) - What is Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet??? somehting...i opened device manager and under the network adapters it shows me that.
Same darn problem
I have a new Acer laptop with Vista. It connects for no more than a minute at a time on the wireless network. The drivers are updated. My router signal strength is good (88-92%). But it just will not stay connected. The desktop running XP is fine, however.
Firewall problems
If you have third Party Firewall like say CA then most likely your Security Suite Package from who ever has not released a firewall version compatible with Vista. CA has only just released theirs.....try and find the software upgrade on the CA site.....it is not something these 3rd Party Security Suite providers are shouting from the roof tops. Also make sure you do not have Windows Firewall conflicting with a 3rd Party Firewall.....bugger eh!

vista internet drop-off/keeps disconnecting
Acer aspire 5570 - dlink wireless GOLD has 4/5 stars for range nd strength. i sit beside it and it still keeps cutting out. evn when it disconnects by itself i can still see signal strength it just cuts it by itself using acer's enet management. anyways. check your wireless card settings sometimes the power saving mode will turn off your card for you . don't know why they even hve it but it *sorta* worked for me
Not firewall-related
Hi!
This is not firewall-related at all. I'm using Norton Internet Security, and when I connect via Ethernet, the Internet connection isn't dropped. But when I used wireless, the connection keeps getting dropped after every 5 minutes or so. I'm using an Acer Aspire with Home Basic with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG adapter, and I have a D-Link DI-540 router. Both adpater and router are installed with the latest drivers.
As with everyone else on this forum, I think that this is a Vista problem. I hope that the fix will be included in Vista SP1.
Thanks.
Jules

I had the same issue with my Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista. I downloaded and installed the Dell Wireless WLAN utility software and drivers from Dell. After installing the WLAN utility I have not had any problems losing connections since. May be worth a try.
Wireless drop off - possible solution
