Movie Maker 2 (Vista-Ultimate) crashes when ever I open an imported video file. I plugged my Canon Hv10 into the firewire port, imported the video and then open or move the file to the storyboard/timeline to edit, and Movie Maker crashes. I am at a loss of how to fix or even approach this problem. I need some guidance if possible

I've installed VLC media player and when i load a movie it openes it, the sound works but the screen is black, the video output isn't working. i open the same movie with windows media player and it works just fine. I've installed vista codec pack and divx 6.5. what could be the problem with vlc?
