i downloaded the vista codecs and when i play a movie on media center all the bright whites are black is there a fix for this

What types of video files will Media Center play? I'm running Ultimate, and have a bunch of DivX and Xvid movies. How do I get them to play through Windows Media Center?

Secondly, once I get them to play there, how can I play them through the Xbox 360 on my TV? I do already have the 360 set up as a Media Extender, and it recognizes all my files. When I go to play them, it says the codec is not found.

This never happened when I first installed vista but then it used to come up every now and again and now it seems to happen all the time.

The error message i get when playing a dvd in windows media player is:

I used to be able to solve this by restarting but now I restart and it keeps coming up.
