Hello, I just got my Vista PC last week. It's a Velocity Micro Promagix E1200. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, and a LITE-ON lh-18a1p DVD RW optical drive.
It's been running quite smooth, almost problem free, but just today, I went into "Computer" and saw that the DVD Drive wasn't there!
This is more important than you might think: It's the only disc drive on my PC. When I went to the device manager, it listed the device with a yellow exclaimation point. I clicked on the "find solution" button and nothing happened. No windows popped up. The blue circle next to my mouse didn't even appear.
Also, I tried clicking on "get driver updates." Windows searched it up for a few minutes, then told me that there were no updates available. After that, I went to the website of my drive's manufacturer, and got the "firmware update." When I ran this, it told me that I didn't have the drive on my PC, when I knew that it was right on the machine, working fine.
I then decided to try "uninstalling the device," so I could reinstall it afterwards. Now, I can't get Windows to recognise the drive in any way, shape, or form.
I even tried opening up my chase and pluging the drive back in. No luck. Also, it turns out that this is not a hardware problem. I managed to boot something off a disc without any problems, so this is Windows related.
Please, if anyone knows how I can fix this, please help!!!
