when i press the power button my screen goes blank then reappears about 5 seconds later. I want this button to be able to turn my system off completely. I have gone into power options and defined the power button to shut down but it does not happen.
Pressing the power button or manually forcing sleep mode from the shutdown menu doesn't work. Monitor powers off then a few seconds later it's back up. The tower never shut off. I wandered around the bios trying to find a setting.
I recently got Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop (Dell Inspiron E1405). Since then, it has been booting up pretty slowly, but it takes even longer to restart/shutdown. When I click the shutdown button, it doesn't register right away, until I move the mouse around a few times or click on shutdown/restart again. (then it takes even longer to actually shut down). It's really annoying, and I would like to know if there is a way to speed the process up. Thanks so much! Also, I am not very technically inclined, so if possible, please answer in the most straight-forward, simple way.
