Vodafone is launching it, and will be selling cellphones to Second Life users allowing them to call each other within the virtual world, and send each other text messages. Users will get the phones from Vodafone Island, which is due to launch next month. No news yet on whether Vodafone will face competition from the likes of Sprint or Verizon.
The much anticipated launch of Vodafone into Second Life took place over the weekend. So, what were we expecting? A glossy office? SL mobile phones allowing P2P telephony within SL? Collaborations in-world with their sponsorship partners? Well, all of these may well be coming - because it’s good to have a plan in Second Life, but for now….
A picture near the Help Island in Second Life. This is the entry point for every newbie who logs in to SL first time. Isn´t it similar to what Ellis Island must have looked like in the beginning of the 20th century?
