Hi - can someone help please.......

I had XP Pro installed on my C:\ drive, and I replaced it with RC1 of Vitsa, doing a clean install.

I've been given a formatted hard disk, connected up as my D:\ drive, and I'd like to reinstall XP Pro onto it, and be able to choose which OS I boot into.

However, when I insert the XP installation disk, I get the initial options menu, but when I select 'Install XP Professional', nothing at all happens.

If I swap the hard drives around, so that the PC boots into the new formatted drive, I get a message when booting up saying 'OS not found', and can get no further. This happens whether or not I boot up with the XP Installation disc in the drive.

I have read losts of posts about Vista installed on a partition or XP on a Vista machine but I can't find any with my exact problem?

I have XP pro installed on my Seagate 80GB drive and have now installed Vista Premium on my 40gb Maxtor Drive. If I change boot order in bios then can start both XP and Vista ok.

I then used Vistabootpro on the Vista machine and now when I boot the Vista drive get a list of Vista or XP. Boots into Vista fine but when I try XP I get error message about unable to find boot.ini file?. I think it looking at the wrong drive for the boot.ini file? One funny thing is both Operating Systems think they are drive C and label the other drive D and vise versa?

Just like it says. I got Vista Ultimate today, installed it, then went to install my Maxtor One Touch III USB 2.0 since all of the drivers for my hardware is on there. At first it didnt detect the drive, then I turned the drive off and back on, then it detected it. Windows installed the driver for the backup drive and I was good to go. I got to install one thing off of the drive, I had to reinstall my computer after that. When my computer came back on the dirve wouldnt connect again. I dont get it? Its like Vista has something that is blocking the hard drive. The maxtor program says their is no drive connected when their is. Thanks in advance.

I Just installed some software "Stardock bootskin"
It's destroyed my startup files, so I need to repair it...

BUT

My Windows Vista Ultimate Disk will not start?
It goes through the gray "WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES" bar, then the green progress bar... then the screen stays black?!

I Decided to remove the hard drive to see what would happen... and it worked, it can boot without the hard drive (HDD) in!

So I Pluged in my hard drive (with the disk still running) and it couldn't pick it up, so I reset the computer... and guess what, were back to were we started?!
