Hello this is my first post.
I have a 6 year old Dell demension 8100 running XP service pack 2. my hard drive is full so I installed second hard drive. 320GB western digital. I upgraded my Bios yesterday. the microsoft vista upgrade advisor says I am good to go no major problems. So I selected vista premium full install not an upgrade on my new fresh formated hard drive. I start the install process from inside win Xp on my old small hard drive and I select install on the new Hard Drive. the reason I am doing it this way is because my bios wont let me boot from a DVD it doesnt load the drivers for DVD till it gets in Windows xp.... so it transfers vista operating system to new hard drive. then unpackes it. I do the registration thing. then it gets as far as the second reboot and cant find operating system. Vist black screen says boot from install disc and it will fix it but I cant boot to DVD because no Drivers. So I am sure you guys know some good work arounds to get me going. The old small hard drive in set as master the second new hard drive is slave the DVD shows up in bios as second Master CD drive but does not have the option to boot to DVD drive. only shows Floppy the old hard drive as boot options.
Thanks for your help
Gader
