When I first got my Vista Business it would find and display text within my documents. Now I find that when I run a search from the start menu not only does it take quite a bit longer to find the files I commonly use, it often doesn't find other...

I have tested this and the supposed excellent instant search much vaunted content search doesnt work properly

i tested this by creating a folder called test, i then created a simple text file with a single word inside it

i then do an instant search for that word and up it pops straight away

i change the file extension to .php instead of .txt and lo and behold search wont find it now !!!

there used to be a similar issue with the old XP Pro search in that you had to go somewhere to configure it to search what it considered unknown extensions !

Anyone know of anything within instant search to do this ?

I cannot seem to get the search funcition to work properly in Explorer/the file system in Vista. I highlight C drive and put in my search topic, but it does not bring up the file. I know it's there, but the search doesn't find it. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I used to do a lot of searching for media by size!

I far preferred the old search box to the new basic file search.

I've reverted most of the new stuff to 'classic windows' as the new stuff just seems like a gimick to me.

Can I revert the search to something that will allow me to search more like the old way?

How do I change what details are shown for folders/searches?

Can I change Thumbnail view to Detail view permanently?

This may have been answered already but my search is not working so I can't look it up.
When I try to search the forrum I get this Flood Control is enabled message and it says try
again in 30 seconds. Anyway on to my problem.

When I open Network in Vista it scanns my entire Domain every time.
It there a way to tell Vista to cache the list of computers on the network
so I don't have to wait for the darn search every time. It is getting quite
irritating.

Also if anyone knows anyting about the forrum search issue I described above
please let me know how to fix it.
