So are you saying AVG still has free version...do I just need to upgrade to newest free version? I saw the link takes you to 7.5 and I have 7.1

Been getting a message that it is no longer supported after January 15 and the link takes you to a purchase page.

Is that just a marketing thing or are they discontinuing all free versions after January 15?

Free is good.

They are discontinuing support for 7.1 after January. You will have to upgrade to the free 7.5 version to keep getting definition updates.

They are not discontinuing free antivirus.

To supplement what mrsugg told you (which is correct), what Grisoft meant to say was they were discontinuing support for the free 7.1x version, and would only support the new 7.5x version in the future. They posted clarification on that point in a number of places. Their announcement was just poorly worded.
