Second Life: What's wrong with your first life?

clipper's remarks: At first glance Second Life appears to draw people together as a community, but in "reality" it only facilitates further the further alienation of it's members with the people in their "real life".

Get a First Life
The desire to escape the real world and 'live' in online games like Second Life is no longer limited to lonely geeks.

Rumormill: PSP2, Codename Cobalt, Pictures, Details Leaked

psp_cobalt%20copy.jpgThis brick-looking device is supposedly the PSP2. I honestly think it is just another mock-up produced by some bored graphic designer out there. This mock-up comes with some information: apparently the PSP2 is codenamed Cobalt (yes, like a less-than-stellar Chevy vehicle) and has a fairly decent spec list.

• All Metal & Ruggedized Rubber Build
• 200% Brighter Screen
• Dual Analog Controllers
• Visual Battery Display
• 8GB Flash Drive
• Wifi (a,b,g)
• Bluetooth V.2 (A2DP, AVRCP)
• Firmware 4.07

I'll go ahead and call BS on this, but maybe there could be some validity to the spec list. –Travis Hudson

Sometimes pop-up windows are too small to display all their content, and they are not always resizable by default. To make them always resizable, type about:config in the Location Bar and press Enter. Find dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable (There's a filter right below the Location Bar), double click the value and it will change to true. Now you can resize all windows.

IBM and Sears today revealed that they are bringing the 120 year-old retailer into Second Life virtual world in a big way. The presence will include an area where customers can import their own kitchen and remodel it with Sears products. Sears plans to bring the entire catalog into Second Life. It's unclear if you will be able to buy products in Second Life and have them shipped to you, but you have to imagine that's the plan. However, the CNET/Reuters piece makes it sound like it's about driving foot traffic.

Backing up your Gmail locally

To back up ALL of your Gmail, simply navigate to the Forwarding and POP section of your Settings in Gmail, and in the POP Download section click the radio button beside "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)".

Then configure the email client exactly as described on the Configuring instructions link at the bottom of the POP Download section. There are instructions for virtually every major email client out there, and even if your client isn't listed, it should be fairly simple to see how to configure yours from looking at instructions for a similar client.
And that's it - now all there is to do is wait, and wait, and wait. If you're like me and your Gmail box is already well over half full, it can take quite a while to download close to 2 Gigs of mail. But think of the peace of mind you'll have knowing that your mail is safely in your hands.
