Strange Vista Internet Problem

I have a very strange Vista (Ultimate 64) problem.

OK here we go, I have problem connecting to the internet with certain applications. I have tried disabling the firewall and still get the same problem.
I can connect to the internet with IE (64bit) but not with normal 32bit IE, firefox, thunderbird and Skype don't connect, the sidebar weather app connects and so does Windows update.

In IE if I goto Tools -> Options -> Connections -> Setup it says 'You are already conected to the internet.' So I click 'Browse the internet now' it displays the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' so I click on 'Diagnose Connection Problems' it says 'Windows did not find any problems'.

I have tried disabling the firewall, uninstalling and reinstalling all chipset and ethernet drivers. This is so odd why can I connect with IE 64bit but not IE and the other apps, whats going on???????????!!!!!!????? huh any ideas????

I have exactly the same problem.... had no luck so far apart from finding out that bitcomet's inbuilt resource browser works.

Vista 64bit Home Premium OEM - Internet Problem
My husband built a new computer for us (first time) and we installed Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM yesterday. It will not connect to the internet. He has tried connecting just through the modem, as well as through our router (Linksys WRT54G) with an ethernet cable. No connection either way, but the IP address is showing 192... etc...

Vista says "unidentified network" and "access; local only"

Has anyone had this problem? We were on the phone w/ Comcast for an hour last night, and we don't think it's a problem with them.

Any help is greatly appreciated - we're at our wits end, since we have no other support options.
Gadgets not updating
Hello there,

I'm having a problem with the gadgets on my sidebar, specifically the ones that require some sort of network connectivity. RSS feeds don't update, Internet radios won't connect, weather gadgets don't download new weather conditions, etc. The gadgets that don't connect to the Internet work just fine. I ran across a thread on another forum suggesting that people that upgraded from one version of vista to another were having this problem but didn't give a solution. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried closing the sidebar and then reopening and removing the gadget and then adding them back but no joy.

I've just installed Vista Business x64 (looks great!), but I'm experiencing a problem with my Internet connection. I connect to Internet trough a cable connection (I have a modem). Vista identified my network card (a realtek rtl8168/8111 family pci-e gigabit ethernet nic). The only problem is that it does not identify the network connection. It says "access: local only" and, when I try to diagnose the problem it says I have to shot down my modem for 10 secounds and then plug it again. This does not solve my problem. Does anyone have any idea where the problem could be? I'm trying to fix this since this morning, and now I look at the clock and it's nine o'clock.

Network Problems
I just installed the Windows Vista Beta 2 version and I am having a couple problems with my network. I can connect to the network but i do not have internet access. My wireless network card also will not connect to either of my 2 wireless network. I have 2 internal LAN cards and they will only connect to the network but not the internet. I had no problems installing the drivers they went in quite easily. I have troubleshooted almost everything I can think of. So now I am here posting on the forum to hopefully resolve the issue. I was going to contact microsoft but from what i can see they charg an arm and a leg to get help.
