I found something interesting out, I don't know if its been posted already or not. But anyway, I've had a few programs that just randomly don't run sometimes. Soon as I click on the shortcut Windows just outright says "This program is not responding and needs to close" This happened to me on Itunes and a couple others. All one has to do is right click My Computer ---> Advanced System Settings --->Advanced tab ---> Click on Settings in the Performance section, then finally the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) tab.

As you can read, DEP is meant to block programs except for Microsoft certified ones from using 'sensitive memory' space and addresses. If you have a program that you cannot start, choose "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for the ones I select" and add the program .exe that you're trying to start. This solved my problem.

I have

3ghz intel pentium 4
2gb of ram
ati radeon x1600

and i want to know why my start menu is so slow. When i click start and then all programs thats fine it does it instantly. Then when i click any program in the list it takes it time. It takes at least 10 seconds to show whats in it. Its the same whether i go into accessories or whether i click mozilla firefox.

Any ideas why? This is really irritating!

Hi all, i'm in need of a little help.
It seems that my sidebar int working. Whenever I click on it, it doesnt load up, at all. Also, when i double click on a gadget, an error coms up saying 'unspecified error.' I've also tried opening it from the program files menu (notthe shortcut) but nothing seems to be happening... It was running perfectly when I forst got Vista with my new computer, but one day it just didnt start and now it wont even open or anything. Any help would be appriciated.
Also, i'm on Home Basic if that helps.

I have set up a selective start up to make sure that I do not have all the extras loading up at boot up, but i am getting irritated with the notification bubble keeping on appearing in the taskbar. I have searched the help menu, but was wondering if anyone has figured out how to turn off this message??

Found it. Right click start, properties, Notification area, Click customise next to hide inactive icons, find program, click on hide when inactive and select hide form the list. Should have looked here first. Cheers Diver99
