Just installed the 64 version of Ultimate on a Gateway mx6440. Everything is great except I have no sound. Does the sound come from the graphics card? The card is an ATI 200M. Do I need drivers and if so where do I get them?

I did clean install of Vista Ultimate on a partition ( dual booting with XP). I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the audio drivers to work. These are common drivers and I can't belive none of the companys who develope drivers had the forsight to get this ready..

Any help would be appreceated. I am a music teacher and having sound on my laptop is crucial!

My computer has an ASUS P5PE - VM motherboard. B4 i reinstalled my copy of windows vista due to severe problems (brang up in an earlier thread) my sound drivers worked fine. Yet now when i attempt to install my sound drivers it keeps telling me that i have the wrong OS, even though i am installing from the same cd and have the same OS. Can anyone help me with this drivers problem? I went to ASUS's website and they have no support for vista. Also my only resource from my old computer i kept on a USB was the windows folder. In it i think i found the specific .dll it adds to the computer but i dont think copying and pasting would work.

I think that 90% of people who are upgrading to Vista are going to have some type of problem. Be patient! I intalled Vista and had no sound, no modem (don't use it anyways), no printer (still no printer), and no SD card reader. In a few days the drivers were released and I am a happy Vista user. Drivers, drivers, drivers are the key to a great Vista experience. I love it and can't wait for the extras to come!

i have the Abit NF8 mobo which has the Realtek sound card onboard. i went to Abit and they dont have the Vista drivers, they only have up to windows xp and even xp 64bit drivers but no vista. I went to the Realtek website and they have the "vista realtek drivers" (both 32bit n 64bit) but wen i try to install i end up getting an error. it'll say "installing driver software" or something along those lines, a few secs later it sais there was an error triying to install "realtek sound device".

last night i was able to install some sound driver, but it promped with with one of those "its not the proper drivers, blah blah" i went ahead in installed anyways and it worked fine, but wen i rebooted, i got an error and had to insert the windows cd in and go through the repair thing.
