A new search engine, Zotspot, has entered the search engine fray. It offers a new wrinkle in the search engine universe.

In a nutshell, it's willing to pay users for using the search engine. Rather than keeping ad revenue generated by searching, Zotspot is willing to give a share of it to users. They say they will send them a check directly or make a contribution to a charity of the user's choice.

The more users make legitimate use of Zotspot, and the more they convince their friends to do so, the more money users can expect, according to the Zotspot folks. Searches designed to simply increase a user's search statistics can be easily spotted, the Zotspotters say. The charities, at the moment, are limited to a list of approved charities recognized by Zotspot. More will be added later, the Zotspot folks say, once they've been vetted by company officials.

The service is free. Users need to register, so they get credit for the searches they make. The service's main site, http://www.zotspot.com, also tells users how to get credit for referring others to Zotspot.
