I bought an Acer laptop it has windows Vista basic.Hooked it up to my network here at work and all that went fine.Turned off printer Lexmark X4270, installed drivers and software for it from the Lexmark web site for Vista onto the laptop,also updated drivers on host computer.Restarted the lap top and turned on the printer.It can see the printer(says its available) but when I try to print a test page it tells me it is sending page to the printer then I get communication is not available.If I disconnect the usb connection on the printer the printer available greys out on the printer window in Vista.I can print from the host computer.Host computer is Win XP pro.Router is a LinkSys wireless G broadband.Printer to host computer is usb cable,host to router is network cable,Acer laptop to router is network cable.Printer is only usb capable no network connection.All other communication on the network is fine file sharing,internet etc...I have restarted laptop printer and host computer numerous times no change.

I have spent 4 days trying to install the X1270 Lexmark on Premium and despite getting the newest files from Lexmark and following exactly the rather odd sequence they advise to get it installed it still refuses to install the drivers. It seems I am not alone in this however, others have spent days with Lexmark tech support and still it won´t install/function properly. I have deeinstalled Lexmark and rebooted numerous times.

I have ran into a strange problem. When attempting to print a picture I can only see the printer that is set up as the default printer. I have 2 printers listed below. I have the HP 990 set as default because I don't print a lot of pictures, but like to use the HP 8250 just for pictures. Most, but not all of the other pic programs let me select what printer I want to use, but not Paint Shop Pro XI, and a few other higher end picture programs. Like I said, I'll just pick on PSP, it only lists the printer set as the default printer. To change it I have to close PSP go into the printers setup, make the change, then restart PSP. This is not a good option as I might have done a lot of changes to a picture before I notice that I can't print to the HP 8250, and to change printers I would lose all editing.
