optical drives stop working in vista

anybody have any ideas on what is happening with Vista when the optical drive will just stop working? Device manager shows the driver is not working/loading properly, and the drive will not show up in Computer and will not run any cd or dvd media.

We found out that this lady had installed some Polaroid software for her camera which had somehow managed to break the optical drive driver and prevent it from working anymore (even tried plugging in a new optical drive and the driver would still not install properly).

i've now had at least 5 people call me with this issue and i have no idea what could be causing it or how to fix it... unfortunately here at Best Buy we just exchange the computers with this issue and do not get a chance to troubleshoot it too much.

If anybody has any ideas, would be much appreciated :)

Optical drives not being detected in the computer in vista

It's a registry error. The upper and lower filters need to be deleted and before u do that u need to save a copy to the computer first.

Hello, I just got my Vista PC last week. It's a Velocity Micro Promagix E1200. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, and a LITE-ON lh-18a1p DVD RW optical drive.

It's been running quite smooth, almost problem free, but just today, I went into "Computer" and saw that the DVD Drive wasn't there!

This is more important than you might think: It's the only disc drive on my PC. When I went to the device manager, it listed the device with a yellow exclaimation point. I clicked on the "find solution" button and nothing happened. No windows popped up. The blue circle next to my mouse didn't even appear.

This is really bugging me now.

Everytime I start up Vista, plug in a portable hard drive or Ipod I get the "Program Compatibility Assistant" pop up saying this drive isnt compatible. When i unplug the ipod, the message just wont go away!!!! Really annoying.

I've tried unistalling the software (MyDVD) but this seems to lose my DVD drive on a reboot? (guessing its got something to do with Drive Letter Access being removed) I've tried messing about with Defender to stop it loading at start-up, but this doesnt seem to make any difference.

Is there anyway I can get rid of this message or unistall the software/driver without causing problems. I dont even use the software anymore! Its really really annoying!!!

My external Seagate drive isn't showing up on Vista Home Premium, any ideas?
It could be missing a driver. Try this after you have your drive is attached, * Click your Start button on the bottom left and type in Device Manager.
