First of all here are my computer specs
AMD Athlon 64 processor
1 gig of RAM
Radeon x1600 video card
Asus K8V-X SE mobo
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
running Windows Vista Ultimate
So after installing and getting all my drivers set up I figured I'd try out some games to see how they played. Well, most games are working fine, but neither Half Life 2 or Counterstrike Source have sound, and I really have no idea why. Sound works outside of those games, and it works fine for other games, so I don't know what the problem is. I also haven't been able to find anyone else who is having this problem, so any insight would really be appreciated.
Windows tells me all sound drivers are up to date, but when I check the ASUS site for audio drivers for my mobo, it doesn't list any drivers for Vista yet. Should I just wait a bit to see if they release a new driver, should I go out and buy a new sound card, or can my problem be solved another way?
Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem.
My specs:
Intel P4 3.0E
1 gig of RAM
Radeon 9800 video card
HP D530 CMT
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
running Windows Vista Business
I get this problem when I play Gunz. When I open Gunz it also stops any music from playing in the WMP11 or any other source. Windows media player will just keep trying to play the next track as if i didnt have codecs. When Gunz isn't open everything sounds great. I dont have any sort of digital audio device plugged in. I've tried some old ass drivers and the xp ones hp/compaq give you. They both work but still don't get any sound when playing Gunz. I havent tried too many other games. I suspect this is a driver problem.
realtek audio prob with vista
I use Vista Ultimate with an Onboard RealTek HD audio solution. The problem I am having (even after upgrading my drivers to the suppliers 32bit Vista RealTek drivers) is that if my sound in Star Wars: Battle Front II is enabled, the game will close down suddenly and leave me at the desktop without any errors. I originally assumed this was a problem with the nVidia drivers provided for my 7600 GS, but learned to disable my sound to play. The sound in the menu system works fine, as does the intro, but when the mission begins the game crashes.
k8v-x se
Hello,
I've got a guestion about the drivers you are using with your k8v-x se for the sound. I've got the same mobo but no sound. I've tried many drivers but nothing will work.
Hope to hear from you.....
