Microsoft executive Shane Kim touted the New Xbox Experience coming next week as the company’s attempt to broaden its reach and shift its Xbox Live online gaming service from a multiplayer matchmaking service to a broader entertainment social network.
Sports scientists at the University of Derby are researching the effects of playing Wii Fit and other Nintendo titles on primary school pupils to see if playing the Wii can assist pupils in losing weight.
"We hope this research will determine if playing on this equipment could actually have physical benefits for children," said Exercise Physiology Lecturer Dr Michael Duncan.

clipper's remarks: With the PS3 severely overpriced and seemingly tanking, Nintendo really has a chance to do something special with the Wii. This is such an exciting step towards a mass-market-ready living room box that lets you toggle seamlessly between TV, gaming, and the web.

When Wii users download Opera, it will activate the "Internet Channel" on the Wii and allow them to use the game console to browse the Internet on their television. Opera via a comic strip, and Nintendo via a statement, announced that the final version of Opera for Wii will be available in March 2007. That final version, according to Nintendo, will also be free March through June, after which it will cost 500 Wii points (roughly $5) through the Wii Shop Channel. In addition to its PC and OS version, Opera is already available for portable devices via Opera Mobile for smart phones and Opera Mini for cell phones.
