I've got a few issues with Vista, besides my nvidia nightmare, that I'm hoping some of you experts can help me resolve.

When go to shutdown, Start, Shut Down, the computer reboots instead of shutting down. When I press the power button it will shut down, but when I do it using the start button. If I select "Restart", the computer will restart, so that's ok. But shut down is messed up.

Other problem, my icons in my quick launch toolbar never stay where I put them. I can arrange them the way I like it, shut down, and they are back to being in a different order.

Never had either of these issues in WinXp Pro, only Vista.

My sound card isn't being recognized by vista. In device manager it just appears as "Multimedia Audio Controller".

I've tried 3 sets of vista drivers from the Creative website and none of them recognize a sound card. As if there were no sound card installed at all. I also downloaded the ngohq modded drivers and still no luck.

Doing the wizard and searching for drivers does not work. The only driver I see listed for "creative" is "Unsupported Game Port".

Windows Update did not work.

The drivers on my XP install will not work.

I even moved the card to another pci slot.

My computer has an ASUS P5PE - VM motherboard. B4 i reinstalled my copy of windows vista due to severe problems (brang up in an earlier thread) my sound drivers worked fine. Yet now when i attempt to install my sound drivers it keeps telling me that i have the wrong OS, even though i am installing from the same cd and have the same OS. Can anyone help me with this drivers problem? I went to ASUS's website and they have no support for vista. Also my only resource from my old computer i kept on a USB was the windows folder. In it i think i found the specific .dll it adds to the computer but i dont think copying and pasting would work.

i have the Abit NF8 mobo which has the Realtek sound card onboard. i went to Abit and they dont have the Vista drivers, they only have up to windows xp and even xp 64bit drivers but no vista. I went to the Realtek website and they have the "vista realtek drivers" (both 32bit n 64bit) but wen i try to install i end up getting an error. it'll say "installing driver software" or something along those lines, a few secs later it sais there was an error triying to install "realtek sound device".

last night i was able to install some sound driver, but it promped with with one of those "its not the proper drivers, blah blah" i went ahead in installed anyways and it worked fine, but wen i rebooted, i got an error and had to insert the windows cd in and go through the repair thing.
