my philips dvd rom drive isnt showing up on my computer and this is what it says on device manager: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) i need to get this sorted out asap as my windows vista is saying my copy isnt genuine when it is! ive contacted microsoft and they said i need to perform a new clean install but i cant do that until this dvd drive works! someone help me! thanks in advance

Hello everyone............I just ordered a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade. I think I am going to get an external hard drive to backup my current Windows XP Home. I have never done this before so I had a few questions.

I have a 100 GB Hard Drive on my laptop. I am using 50 GB, and have 50 GB free. If I backup everything on my computer now to my new external hard drive, which will probably be a 100 GB, will that keep windows xp, and everything just like it is on my computer?

If I don't happen to like Vista on my laptop, can I just plug the external hard drive in to my laptop and reload XP and my software programs, files, and settings?

anybody have any ideas on what is happening with Vista when the optical drive will just stop working? Device manager shows the driver is not...

This is kind of a weird question, but i will try to explain it as best as i can.

I installed my oem copy of Vista Business yesterday, everything runs great, but i noticed that i had a really little amount of space on my hard drive. I'm on a laptop so it is only a 60 gb hard drive. I started looking around to see what files i had transfered over from my external hard drive that might be taking up a lot of space. Vista was telling me i had like 4gb of space left, so i had used up about 51gb of the space. But when i open up C:\ and highlight everything inside, right click, and click properties, it only shows that i am using 39gb of space on C.

I have a Seagate ST3320620AS 320GB Serial ATA plummed into a SATA PCI controller (ALi) when the PC Boots at post I get a notification that the Raid Card has found the drive, but in Vista the drive isn't detected any ideas ?
