One of the first things I did with Windows Vista is I turned the sound effects off. Lately, I haven't even had my speakers turned on. But recently I turned them on and found that every time I hovered my mouse over an area where I can make a selection (a pane that includes checkboxes, radio buttons, etc.), I get this quick, futuristic sound of a woosh followed by computery beeping. I went into the sounds control panel and saw that I still had the No Sounds theme, and there were no modifications in the list. I then played all sounds in c:\windows\media, and none of them matched. I then searched for all WAV files on my computer, selected all and played them in WMP (very entertaining), but none of those matched, either. I don't know what to do. If no one's familiar with this sound, perhaps someone knows of a way to see what sound is being called up by my computer in real-time or in some sort of log?

So yesterday I took the plunge and upgraded to Vista Ultimate. The only problem I've had so far is that my MP3's sound like total crap compared to how they sounded in XP. When I say they sound like crap I mean that they sound like the leveling is WAY too high and I get terrible distortion when the volume is past about halfway.

All my MP3's are 128kbps and normalized to 89dB. I use Media Monkey as my music player. However, I've tried them in WMP as well and they still sound crappy. I have an Intel D915 mobo and use the onboard AC97 audio. I tried both the default AC97 drivers that Vista installs by default as well as the AC97 drivers located on the Intel site and it still hasn't helped.

I just recently moved for an internship this summer. I ended up driving out and decided to take my desktop computer with me. As soon as I got to my destination I set everything up and realized that my sound was not working.

I do not have a sound card I was just using the unboard sound from my Intel DG965WH motherboad. I messed around with it a little... Tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it. When I right click the sound icon in the system tray and select the playback devices it lists a Digital Output Device that says "Working", and Speakers that say "Not Plugged In". Whenever I play music or anything the mixer for the Digital Output Device moves like the music is playing but there is absolutely no sound.

heyi have sound on my computer everything is installed and working fine i can hear sound on media player and when playin movies and everything else but when i go on sites lyk youtube or altavista sites with videos on i dont get no sound the sound...

I just recently got windows vista installed on my pc (not upgrade, fresh) and i really liked how my music sounded on windows xp (same signals routed to all the satellites) but now that i have vista, some (very few) tracks won't play AT ALL in the rear speakers. Those that do, produce a "hollow" sound - almost like voice cancellation in karaoke mode, with a feint echo - (only on the rear speakers it sounds weird).

I like my acoustic tracks so it bothers me quite a bit, at most it sounds really weird if you know what i mean
