You should be able to, but it's more dependent on your graphics hardware than RAM. I installed Vista RC2 on my 5-year-old tower (which has 512MB RAM and a 256MB ATi Radeon 9600 graphics card) and Aero chugged along fairly decently.

My first post here so forgive me if I ask lame questions. My PC has an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics card with up to 256mb memory (I think). Would this be up to the job of handling Aero Glass when I upgrade from XP to Vista soon? Many thanks for any help.

PS. I also have 1GB RAM and 80GB Hard drive with a 3.06GHZ Pentium 4 processor. Can anyone see any problems I may have after the upgrade?

Ok, it seems that there are quite a few people having problems with Vista, which is expected, but the problems that people are experiencing can easily be averted!
If anyone else has something else that they think I should add to this list, let me know and I'll edit the post!

NOTE...........................
STAY AWAY FROM THE 64BIT VERSION FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 6 - 12 MONTHS! IT IS NOT WORTH IT!
DO NOT INSTALL VISTA OVER XP AS AN UPGRADE! 9 times out of 10, you will have alot of problems with Vista if you "UPGRADE" over XP.
Step 1. Make sure you have updated your BIOS, and if you have a graphics card that is more than 6 - 12 months old, and is not at least 256MB, consider updating, you can find a cheap higher spec card on eBay.
