I need to switch from my home network to work network with my laptop. For now I'm still using the good old "alternate configuration" tab in the Ip setting and set up vista to automatically get an Ip from my router at home and use the fixed Ip at work.

However, I was wondering if, since Vista can detect that I plugged the laptop to another network, if it can also automatically change the settings like Ip and DNS so I can use a fixed Ip at home and at work?

i was trying to set up a home network with a laptop that has vista on it, and a desktop pc that has xp on it. i used the home network setup wizard on the computer with xp on it and went through. after that, it said to put the xp cd into any other computers that didn't have xp on them. so i put the xp installation cd into the laptop with vista installed on it, then went to the "perform addtional tasks", then "setup a home network". it actually installed some files on my vista operating system from the xp installation cd. i think this may have messed it up. because now i can't do anything with vista. no programmes will open. and when i try to system restore, it just says "c:windows\system32\rstrvi.exe file system error (-1073741502)."
