I have a laptop running Vista home premium and a desktop PC with Win ME. I can "see" the laptop from the desktop but cannot connect to it. The other way round is fine, from the laptop I can see the folders and files on the desktop PC, open them...

I cannot successfully copy files from my laptop to my media centre PC (HTPC) across the wireless network.

Both machines are running fresh installs of Vista Home Premium (retail version, not beta).
Network works fine on both PCs, including Internet access and both can 'see' shared folders on each other.

The problem comes when I try to copy files from the laptop to the HTPC (and vice versa). It seems to work fine if I log into the HTPC and copy a file FROM the laptop...this is not what I want - I want to 'send' a file from the laptop to the HTPC. This worked perfectly with XP on the HTPC and Vista on the laptop.

Hello folks, hope you can help me. We currently have a desktop PC at home which runs Windows XP Pro. I have just bought myself a new laptop (HP Pavilion dv2000), which is also currently running XP. My new laptop however is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows Vista. I have been getting used to my new laptop over the past week and setting up my network, so that I can share media files from my desktop to my laptop (desktop PC wasn't powerful enough to do some video editing, which is why I bought the laptop). Will it be ok for me to upgrade my laptop to Vista, have my desktop running XP and still be able to share files and generally network my computers as normal?

Hello All, I just got a new desktop with vista on it, and I would like to take the files form my XP Pro Laptop. The desktop is connected via ethernet cord to a router in my house. The laptop is using a wireless connection through the router. I want to take the files from my laptop to my desktop using the internet. How would I go about setting up a home network?

I'm new to vista.

I've been asked to support an Italian version of vista home premium. I've hard coded the ip address of our ethernet network into the laptop. When I re-boot the laptop with the network cable plugged in, it works fine, connects and surfs away. However when I unplug the network cable, power off the laptop and boot after a few seconds the laptop loses all ip details.

I'm not sure whether this is relevant, but the laptop doesn't have a battery, running off the mains. I'm logged on as an administrator, despite getting messages saying that access is denied when trying to write to c:\.
