Folder stuck on desktop

I downloaded Dreamscenes for my Ultimate Vista machine and made a folder on the desktop for the files. I deleted what was in the folder and now I cannot delete the folder from the desktop! I have tried safe mode, done google searches, tried to look in the registry. I have no idea how to get rid of this folder. It shows 0 bytes and I can create another folder with the same name, and also put stuff in the folder and take it out. If I try to delete it I get the error message "Item not found-Could not find this item-Verify item's location and try again.

i also have this problem. I can move the folder anywhere on my computer but if i try to move it to the recycle bin or to delete it i get the error message "Could not find this item. This item is no longer located in C:\......."

Is it possible to remove this or am i stuck with it forever?

Try opening a command prompt

Try opening a command prompt and changing to the directory the folder is in. Then type dir /x to get the 8.3 name of the directory, and delete it using rd.
e.g.
run cmd.exe (as administrator)
cd \users\whatever\desktop
dir /x
rd broken~1

Hi all, I have a bit of an issue with the 'Documents' folder duplicating automatically inside the User folder and it appearing on the desktop - even after deleting it multiple times it just keeps reappearing.. I am using a Dell Inspiron 6400 with 2Gb Ram, 265Mb ATI Graphics card and 1.67Ghz Centrino Due Core 2 Processor using Windows Vista Business.

If anyone can help with this I'd be most appreciated.

Deleting Items from the "Downloaded Program Files" folder
Does anyone know how to remove objects from the folder
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files

This is the folder that is displayed when going to Internet Options > General Tab/Browsing History/Settings > View Objects. There are often ActiveX objects in this folder which are listed as "Damaged" or are otherwise corrupted.

Back in Windows XP it was a simple as right-clicking on a damaged object and choosing "Remove" or "Delete."
Under Windows Vista it does not appear that there is a way to remove objects from this folder.

I've read that this feature has been removed from Windows Vista... and that you're supposed to now use the "Manage Add-Ons" dialog to remove ActiveX controls. Take a look at my Downloaded Program Files folder, however... there's an object names {6414512b-b978...yadda yadda. This does not show up in my Manage Add-Ons dialog... does anyone know how to remove this object??
"Computer" folder forgets to show contents!
I'm finding that the first time I look at my "Computer" folder, everything is shown correctly. However, if I then close the folder and re-open it, only "MTP device" is shown. It doesn't show any of my hard disks, or DVD drives. The green "progress" bar in the folder keeps going, but it never shows any more content, and the green bar never manages to actually complete. All the drives are still working OK and can be access directly (e.g. by opening a folder to "C:\").

Anyone know why this might be?

Hope I can explain this so it is understandable.

On a new computer with Vista Home Premium, I had no problem importing my OLE address book from the old machine. In OLE on the older computer, in the address book, I had a folder for SELDOM USED CONTACTS, email address I used once or twice a year. It was a folder that showed in the drop down menu when I composed a new message and clicked the little icon to the left of the address space. Clicking that icon brought up the address book and only the addresses I didn't have in the Seldom Used Folder showed. Since there weren't many of them it was easy to scroll through and pick the ones I wanted.
