In the last month ive had 2 clients with vista machines that wont use DNS, even if i manually assign the addresses.
There are no proxy's involved,
Neither DHCP nor Manual configurations work,
Neither wireless nor cabled connections work,
Tried on 3 different networks,
Reinstalled network device drivers,
Brand new laptop from HP, a dv2000.
I noticed that if i boot into safe mode then the problem goes away so thought it must be a service or something in standard mode.
Tried the stopping the dnscache service and now i can get internet fine but windows updates dont work! (Even if they did, its not really a proper fix).
Tried reinstalling drivers and already have the latest ones installed. Also tried flushing the DNS.
Cant find anything on the internet/microsoft KB relating to this which i find amazing cos ive seen it twice.
On the last machine i downgraded to XP and all was fine. Vista was reinstalled but the same problem occured. Is this somehow a hardware thing?
Any ideas anyone???
