Cursor/mouse pointer constantly disappears

My entire mouse pointer will disappear completely when I hover over certain areas, such as the url entry window in Internet Explorer, or the box that I'm typing this in.

I have gone in and unchecked the box that reads "hide my cursor while I type", because I hate that feature, and this is driving me nuts.

Anyone have any ideas? I have a MS Wireless LaserMouse 6000 and a system running Windows Vista with all updates installed.

Come Back Cursor!

I'm running Vista Home Premium with a Microsoft Intelli-eye Mouse, and the cursor disappears whenever I try to move it to any kind of text area (such as this one), for selecting text or simply for repositioning the cursor. Very annoying. And the cursor *is* there, in a sense, because when I click and drag, I select text. Problem is, I don't know until it's selected what text I'm about to seclect. Because I don't know where the cursor is to begin with.

I can't figure this one out. Or not yet. Help, help!

Vista cursor issues
One of the most annoying features of Vista, for me, is the behavior of the cursor. When the cursor lingers over an option in a menu, it selects it without a left click or a double tap on the mouse pad. Is there any way to get rid of this feature?
Mouse pointer changes!
I don't like any of MS pointers so I use the "Flatblue" pointers. My problem is everytime I start my PC the default pointers "White" come back, I have to go to mouse properties and click the pointers tab and click OK and there back. VERY disappointed!!! Anyone have this problem and did you find a fix? Also why does the "+<>" at the top of the gadgets bar not disappear with the bar outline?
Help me. Windows Aero is missing from the theme list!!! :(
Story:
Vista was really lagging when playing games/ applications so I tried to make it as fast as possible (system: E6600, 2GB DDR2-800, 8800GTS , 500GB HDD) by changing to Performance mode in System Control Panel and using Windows Classic Theme. I disabled the wallpaper and use Classic Start Menu. I also set the mouse pointer to None and Disable mouse pointer shadow. Vista was slightly better now.

When i restart the PC, Aero was not in the list anymore!!! (See image)
What happened?
Did vista realized that my system could not handle aero anymore? Serious bug in OS?
