I just bought this laptop, sony vaio with vista on it. Im not terrably familiar with this OS yet. This problem is driving me insane. whenever i go to click on a place to enter text, like in the url bar of internet explorer, or in the text entry box of aim, or on a page i try to type in word, even in this box im typing in now, my cursor disappears, and i have to try and guess where it is, and click randomly untill i get where i want to be.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Thank you

Had same problem in Vista.
Had same problem in Vista. I had pointer type 'Windows standard extra large' selected. Eventually found that ANY of the Windows Standard types cause the annoying behavior. I went to one of the Black cursors and that works correctly. I don't like it, but have to see the cursor. And I hate Vista, but it came on the laptop.
And this system declared the email address I first entered as invalid...WRONG, it was a valid but well here is what it looked like pattern gskqt3102@someplace.net.

Great response about using a mouse scheme other than the MS ones -- I was facing the same problem in a brand new, un-tweaked Sony Vaio .. well, seems un-tweaked did not include changing the Mouse properties -- among the first thing I do when setting up a new system. Thanks for the solution which was driving me and many others everyone nuts.

Thank You
Kudos. Perfect response for an issue that was causing my last remaining hairs to be pulled out. My next computer will be a Mac. I have Vista and the cursor kept disappearing when moved over a word document, or any place to enter text. This is not an issue with the control panel option to turn off the mouse when typing. Rather, its apparently yet another thank-you-Bill-Gates Windows bug. Again, many thanks for the fix.
