I have Vista Home Premium on a new machine and all is well with the exception that I can't play downloaded mp3 files. there are no problems with the various sample files that were present already, cd's can be ripped and played videos no problem.
I can play the songs on URGE until they are downloaded in library, then I can't. The problem exist regardless of where I purchased them from ie. URGE, Walmart, Yahoo. Sound like inability to validate licence?
Anyway I thought it might be a driver issue as it exist regardless of program. The error is C00D11B1 in WMP
The audio device is SigmaTel HD Audio CODEC.
I'm having a hell of a time getting dell to converse with me because their help desks appears inept.
Please help

Hi there, I work tech
Hi there,
I work tech support for one of the above companies. The error is related to a line in the registry that bypasses the necessary Windows signature on your sound drivers. So far I've only seen this with Sigmatel devices.
Here's your fix. The reboot at the end is essential.
1. Click on the Start Menu.
2. Type regedit into the Start Search box and hit enter.
3. If asked for permission, click on Continue to open the Registry Editor
4. On the left-pane, navigate to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion, and finally, Audio.
5. In the right-pane, double click on the text, DisableProtectedAudioDG, and change the value from 1 to 0.
6. Close the Registry Editor.
7. Restart your computer.
I'll watch for responses in case you have any trouble.

I'm having the same problem
I'm having the same problem described above. I followed the steps mentioned here to fix the problem, but when i browse to the registry destination that you explain above, when I get to "CurrentVersion" there is no Audio subfolder. Could it be somewhere else? Do you know another way that I could fix this problem? Thanks

If you don't have the Audio
If you don't have the Audio entry in the registry it's almost definitely a different problem. In my experience you'll need to reset your DRM folder but I would not recommend doing this without the guidance of your copy-protected music provider since you'll most likely need your licenses reset. Sorry it took so long to reply back to you!

no Audio folder
I don't have an audio folder either and have no music on my computer. This is a work computer so I don't plan on having any on there. Is there a way to fix this problem if you're not worried about losing access to copyrighted music? I just want to play videos!

Thank you, but now what?
Well, I did what you suggested, AND IT WORKED, for my Napster program. But now my Windows Media Player won't open at all. I don't understand why it worked for one, but not the other... you can also reply to me at ellen_copeland@hotmail.com

Nevermind, IT DOES WORK!
Ok, disregard the response from earlier. After shutting down the computer, again, and letting sit for a while...I restarted it and now all of a sudden the Windows Media Player is working just fine. Go figure!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, A MILLION TIMES THANK YOU! YOU NOT ONLY MADE MY DAY, BUT YOU SAVED ME SOME $$. I don't understand some of these Microsoft people. You spend mega bucks to buy their product, and then they want you to pay them to fix mistakes that THEY MADE with their programs! ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU.
IT REALLY WORKS!!

IF THE FIX DOESN'T WORK - READ THIS
OK, guys. I probably won't be keeping up on this thread anymore as I am no longer supporting DRM in the real world so I'm not as up-to-date as I used to be.
Here's what I do know. If you are getting the c00d11b1 and do not have the registry entry I mentioned in the fix above, you are almost definitely going to need to contact support for the music provider, because in my experience this indicates you have a corrupted DRM folder and need your licenses replaced.
This is probably obvious to you if you're to the point of looking at web forums for help, but DRM is a losing proposition. Luckily the industry is sloooowly turning around on this issue, and you can now get a fair amount of content DRM free, from places like eMusic, who's always sold DRM free tunes, or even the big places like iTunes. I highly encourage you to seek these places out and spend you money where they don't lock you out of your content.
Glad I was able to help some of you. I'll check back occasionally but no promises.
