The Top 100 Rock Songs of all time can be debated endlessly. I thought I would come up with my own list, based on lifetime experiences of over 40 years of listening to music and rating sounds that struck a chord in my heart. I have listened to tens of thousands of tunes over the years, and will try to do justice to the gold nuggets that are out there. Each song that we rate favorably, has one or more of the following four qualities:

MTV’s Harmonix games studio and The Beatles’ Apple Corps label have confirmed they will develop “a music-making” video game that allows gamers to play some of the band’s songs from its U.K. back-catalog.

The title has no scheduled release date but will be ready by Christmas of next year, the pair told reporters on a conference call. Digital downloads of Beatles’ songs is another matter -- Apple Corps said it is still working on that and has nothing yet to announce.

The appearance of The Beatles’ back catalogue on iTunes (or, indeed, any digital music service) is as far off as ever, judging by comments yesterday from Sir Paul McCartney.

But here’s the thing - for once, it’s nothing to do with Steve Jobs. Instead, the negotiations to digitise the Fab Four have stalled between the band’s own Apple Corps and label EMI.

MTV, which recently made a super smart and exciting YouTube-combating move by making its music video collection available online, just ruined it. They’ve censored Weird Al.

Yankovic, in case you didn’t know, or the only musician that’s managed to light up the otherwise dim formerly Music Television channel with spoof and satire consistently for 25 years. His video for “Don’t Download This Song,” an indictment of the music industry for treating fans like criminals, has four bleeps in it that it didn’t have before.
