Google introduced the beta version of its open source Chrome browser nearly two months ago, and issued its third update to the beta yesterday. (The update pushes to you automatically if you're running Chrome.) Although there are signs that the very early popularity of this browser has calmed down somewhat, it's still generating a lot of buzz, Google has confirmed that many extensions are coming for it, and I expect to see it in a mobile version very soon. If you're running Chrome, here are seven tips for customizing and getting the most out of it.

Now that the beta testing period for Google’s browser, Chrome, is due to end early next year, it is obvious that Google will do everything in their power to market their product and make it as popular as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Security fixes and minor changes ahoy
Google has released a beta update of its Chrome browser, as it looks to correct security flaws and usability issues.

Although it quickly picked up over one per cent of the browser market at release, Chrome has slipped back to a reported 0.7 per cent, still ahead of Opera but a long way behind market leader Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox and Apple Safari.

Chrome version 03.154.9 is a beta release to fix security bugs including the widely reported vulnerability that let sites potentially spoof addresses.

Last week, I published Part I and Part II of my recent interview with Rajen Sheth, a.k.a. the inventor of Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Apps. Throughout Part II, Sheth and I discussed the degree to which the pre-release version of Google's open source browser Chrome represented the sort of browser-side innovations that might take Web-based applications (such as those that are found in Google Apps) to the next level. Google can and does of course push modern day browsers to their limit with the coding it does on the server-side.

Next week, I’m venturing down to Mountain View to spend the better part of a day visiting the Googleplex and meeting with a bunch of Google folks involved with activities such as search and the Chrome browser. It should be a good time, and I plan to ask lots of questions.
