Best Vista version for gaming purposes

I had a look at m$ website and saw that Basic requires only 512mb of memory, whereas Premium will require 1024mb of memory. Is it the AERO system that makes you need that much of memory? If it is, I suppose you can turn it off, and if its turned off, does it make the requirements to the level of Basic's 512 megabytes?

Im looking forward for the new version of Movie Maker, but the system requirements doesn't please me as I will use the PC for gaming purposes mostly.

Then the 32bit vs 64bit, as 32-bit software only allows me to use 2gb of dualchannel memory I can't get 64-bit because of its driver problems. Or how is it, is the 64bit driver support going to get better and provide support for better gaming performance vs. 32bit?

Hey all...

I bought the retail Ultimate Vista w/ the 32bit and 64bit versions. I actually installed the 64bit program first it was very quick, I liked the speed, but what I was getting paranoid about is the support for 64bit applications.

All my hardware currently has a version of the 64bit drivers, although I see they need a little refinement.

So after very LITTLE thought I went back to 32bit OS. I can notice the quickness is not up to par with the 64bit as one would expect, but the drivers and such seem to be about the same for the 32bit as the 64bit.

I am now wanting to go back to 64bit, but I would like some people's opinions about the increased support for 64bit apps. Mainly the smaller programs. Will most software work in 64bit? Im talking about small apps like file renamers, video players such as VLN, PowerDVD, etc...
Memory Upgrade
I upgraded from 2GB of memory to 4GB of memory in my Vista x64 gaming rig and experienced a bunch of problems.

First, my machine only recognized 3GB of the installed 4GB. A friend told me to fix this I just had to enable mapping around the hardware memory hole. And that worked as far as the machine would recognize that 4GB were installed. Although right away there were a bunch of other problems. It caused popping in my speakers and didn't recognize a lot of my hardware such as my microphone, printer, and sound drivers. Also the index score for memory went from 5.2 with my 2GB to a 4.0!
Memory Support 32bit vs. 64bit?
I am looking at getting Vista as soon as I can... The question I have is

Windows XP only supported up to 3.4 gigs of ram... There for I got Windows 64bit and Now using the full 4gigs that I have..

My question is does Windows Vista 32bit still only read at 3.4?? or will it read a full 4gigs??

I am iffy on going 64bit again because my Sound Blaster X-FI hates 64... Could be better for Vista 64bit but I am not sure I want to try that out for my self....

So does anyone know how much ram Vista 32bit supports???
