Upgrading new machine's Basic to Premium

I bought a new machine over the weekend with Vista Basic. I was a Vista beta tester and I should be getting a copy of Premium in the mail shortly, so I opted out of the upgrade at the store. When my Premium arrives, can I just throw it in and have it upgrade over Basic, or do I need to purchase the "anytime upgrade" CD to do this?

I never really had much of a chance to do much with the Beta version, so I'm sure that once I'm up and running with this new machine, I'll be 'round here a bunch, so thanks in advance.

Should I Anytime Upgrade or buy OEM?

Hi, I very recently bought a new Dell PC, which came with Vista Home Basic edition (32 bit). I've quickly realised that I want the Ultimate edition!

I don't have the money to buy the retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate, so should I:

1) Buy the OEM 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate (about 120GBP with delivery from scan.co.uk)
2) Use Anytime Upgrade to upgrade my Home Basic to Ultimate (about 138GBP using Sony as the retailer)

Obviously looking at those prices, it would seem that buying the OEM version of Ultimate would be the best choice.

Windows Anytime Upgrade

I had installed Windows Vista Business upgrade on an XP professional machine. As you are probably aware, it is the 'upgrade' that requires you to install OVER a previous installation of Windows. Just today I heard about the Windows Vista over Windows Visa trial variation. None the less, I decided to use a 'clean' install of XP to start with.

The windows XP install was done via a Ghost image that I'd create a few months ago with most patches from Microsoft. I did get the latest patches prior to installing Vista.

After the patches were installed, it was a textbook (long) install of Vista. This is on a dual-core, 2GB machine. Good grief it takes *forever* to install. I'd say it took about an hour from start to end. I'm not complaining really, just making an observation here.
