Hi there, first off let me say I'm sorry I wasnt sure which forum to post this in.
Recently I installed Adobe After Effects 7 on my new Vista machine. It seems to run just fine until I attempt to import a file to the program.
It then brings up an error saying "After Effects: Out of memory. (1k requested) (23 :: 40)"
I have 2GB of DDR2 Ram, when Im running After Effects my pc says there is about 1.6GB of RAM free.
Any ideas why this might not be working?
Any help would be brillant

Aftereffects 7 + Vista
Recently I also installed Adobe After Effects 7 on my new Vista machine. Just like yours it seems to run just fine until I attempt to import a file to the program.
It then brings up exactly the same error saying "After Effects: Out of memory. (1k requested) (23 :: 40)"
I desperately need to know how I can overcome this problem or is it fate a comple. Shot down by Vista!!!!
Help running After Effects 7 or 7.0 on Windows Vista
Alright you get the error while running in which mode?
Win 98?
Win XP?
In Windows 98 mode
This should allow you to import files
In Windows XP mode
This should allow you to export files
I changed the compatibility mode in the preferences for AfterFX.exe file I also clicked on "Show Settings For All Users" and changed the compatibility mode there as well.
I hope this helps

I had the same exact
I had the same exact problem, and when using the Windows 98 compatibility mode as adviced in this thread I received a warning saying my QuickTime version was incompatible with AE. I ignored this warning, but it wouldn't allow me to import QuickTime files. All other file-types I tried worked.
HOWEVER, I then tried simply dragging & dropping the footage from its original folder (as opposed to going via the menus) and then it worked! So give that a try. :)
