Fix for Adobe Acrobat hijacking .exe files and associated icons
I found the fix at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb401154
Delete Adobe Acrobat by going to Control Panel, Programs and Features, select Acrobat and unistall. Reboot.
The instruction were vague on how to get to enter command prompts in Vista. Next, you have to left click on Start (lower left), left click on All Programs, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
Type "regedit" and enter to open the registry editor.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe.
Right click on OpenWithList and chose delete.
Right click on UserChoice and chose delete.
Close Regedit.
Reinstall Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
