I have xp sp2 and just gave my daughter a laptop with vista home premium. I want to be able to provide remote assistance to her from my xp machine. I believe you cant use messenger to communicate but cant the invitation be saved as a file and still connect that way?

I don't see a big difference between XP SP2 and Vista. The graphics are better, but you need at least 1 gig RAM.

Error 1606

Hi all, fist post here.

Here's my problem, I have a number of programs that won't install for me. I keep getting a message 'Error 1606: Could not access network location G:Photo\

Now G: is my second hard drive, and there's a photo folder on it. It's not a network folder. I've tried the usual, turn of UAC,run as admin, xp sp2 compat and even disconnected the hard drive.

The 3 main problems I'm having it with are Nero 7, adobe reader verions 6.0-8.0 and bluetooth software for a dongle.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hard drive keeps turning itself off !!!

I installed Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and everything went fine during the installation. The only thing that didnt work was my printer (a lexmark x75). So after a couple of hours of using Vista, the hdd turned off (i can tell 'cause of the single click sound it makes when I turn off my pc normally, and since i had problems with a similar hdd before). Sometimes after I reboot the computer it turned off when the windows circular logo appeared, but it mostly turned itself off when I was doing normal stuff, web browsing, chatting, stuff like that.
