Nintendo is sitting firmly at the top of the games console tree right now, having just been 'bigged up' by the release of the US sales figures for October which show the Wii on 803,000 and the DS on 491,000. Both well ahead of nearest rival, the Xbox 360 on 371,000. The old, original, Xbox quite unsurprisingly does not feature in the top six list. That said, the PlayStation 2 does, at the bottom, on 136,000. So why mention the Xbox at all then?

Simply because the Xbox 360 has yet to manage to sell more units than the original Xbox overall, since release.

If video games are the modern-day incarnation of sci-fi and action films, Gears of War 2 is a true blockbuster. Two Christmases ago, Gears of War became the de facto Xbox 360 system seller when Halo 3 didn’t pan out for a holiday launch. This year, pre-orders for the sequel surpassed those for the original, making Gears of War 2 the one of the biggest video game releases of the season.

When the original Gears of War landed back in 2006, it proved to be the first true killer app for the Xbox 360 and has remained one of the platform's best titles. Not only was Gears of War an excellent commercial for the Unreal Engine 3, it turned out to be a smash hit and quickly defined the Xbox 360 as the premiere console for online shooters. Epic's generational debut was a stunning game, visually breathtaking, and packed to the gills with some explosive, action-packed gameplay and a few neat gameplay tricks.

Inside the case of the new James Bond XBOX 360 game that came out today is a special insert card that allows you to trial the Netflix streaming service for 48 hours. While the trial won't officially kick off until later in the month when the new XBOX 360 console upgrades roll out, this is the beginning of what is expected to be some massive marketing efforts by both Netflix and Microsoft for the new service. While this is the first game I have bought that has the trial offer included, I expect other games will offer it as well.
