Vista won't talk to XP

I am having a problem. I have an 8 computer office and have bought 2 new computers using Vista Ultimate. When I put the new computers on the wired network I cannot see any of the XP machines on the network. I can see the vista computers on the XP machines but get an error message when I try to connect. All firedwalls are disabled and I have directories shared on the XP machines and on the Vista machines. It appears that Vista and XP will not connect.

Any ideas would certainly be appreciated.

Netgear Problem

I had a serious problem by cannot logging on msn messenger via my Netgear router, a NG834G, however, I had a spare BT router, Voyager 2100 Wireless and it allowed me to logged me on msn messenger as it say on the connection setting on msn messenger "You are directly connected to .NET Messenger Service. You are connected to the Internet through wired network connection. You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT. The Windows Firewall is enabled. (User)". But, when I using a Netgear router and the msn messenger connection setting read out "You are directly connected to .NET Messenger Service. You are connected to the Internet through wired network connection." but the missing out is this "You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT. The Windows Firewall is enabled. (User)" as it wasn't there as I cannot logging on.
