Boot delay with Vista

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been done to death, but I can not find anything similar in the archives...

I am experiencing long delays (5 -7 minutes) when booting my PC now I have upgraded to Vista. The PC should be more than capable of running Vista, and a virus check and update of all drivers seems not to resolve the problem.

There are two interesting things that I have noted when checking the application event log.

1. Winlogon is reporting a significant delay (x2 messages):

"The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logon)."

Disable Task Manager

Hi,

I have written an application that child-proofs an XP computer. One of the many things it does is to disable the Task Manager.

To do this in XP, I make two registry changes (Which I change back when the app is exited)...

CODE
'//Change the LogonType for windows to the Welcome Screen (this helps block the Ctrl-Alt-Del)
My.Computer.Registry.SetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "logonType", 1)
CODE
'//Disasble Task Manager
