The American military is getting new tools to help train its soldiers in the global fight against Osama Bin Laden: video games.

Stars & Stripes is reporting that the Army is planning on investing $50 million over five years on a new game to help train its soldiers -- "Game After Ambush" -- with the first-person shooter game letting players do "most anything a soldier does." Unlike game-slash-PR

If video games are the modern-day incarnation of sci-fi and action films, Gears of War 2 is a true blockbuster. Two Christmases ago, Gears of War became the de facto Xbox 360 system seller when Halo 3 didn’t pan out for a holiday launch. This year, pre-orders for the sequel surpassed those for the original, making Gears of War 2 the one of the biggest video game releases of the season.

Unplayable cut scenes, cinemas, or in-game movies have been a part of video games for more than 20 years. They help advance the plot, serve as a rest area for players and produce shock and awe like any good movie.

While the technique is evolving (some developers like Valve shun them altogether in favor of total interaction), cut scenes often make games feel bigger than they really are. And nobody does it better than the following games when it comes to memorable cinematics.
