Task Scheduler and WIA errors

I have Home Premium, and I've been getting this message about every hour for a week:
"Windows Image Acquisition Service"
"There is no application registered for this event"
I get no other info, just an "OK" button.

Since my new computer has weak USB ports in the back, I've tried two different PCI USB cards so a couple of things will get recognized. Only while those cards are installed have I gotten the message. I've tried a System Restore to before the message first appeared, but it still comes up.
In looking for possible clues, I started the Task Scheduler, which gives me these two messages:

Greetings everyone! This is my first post in this forum, and I hope the many knowledgeable folks that populate this place may be able to help me out with my problem. I search around first to see if someone had run across the same difficulties, but failed to find anything similar. I thank you all in advance for your input.

I own a Hewlett-Packard dv6040us laptop, which I purchased in September 2006. Earlier this year, in late February 2007, I upgraded the OS to Windows Vista Ultimate.

Try a USB to PS/2 adapter. Your keyboard should have come with one. If not, try your local estore.

USB "plug and play" ? Not in Vista

Some of my devices are recognised in one USB port and not another.
My USB printer only works when my USB wireless modem is not plugged into a specific USB port - my wireless modem only works in that same USB.
All devices were present during Vista installation.
I have 4 USB ports in a PCI expansion port - nolne of these work for most of my devices.
Can anyone offer a glimmer of hope and advise what I can do next (preferably not "try every device in every port")?

USB hanging...

I just installed Vista Ultimate this week, and I've been using it as my main OS. It has it's quirks and glitches every now and then, but as a whole, it seems to be working alright. However, on the 2nd day, I went to plug in my USB flash drive (SanDisk 1GB Cruzer Micro) into a front USB port - and before I could even get the drive in the USB slot, Vista locked up. I don't mean "locked up" as in everything froze...I mean "locked up" as in both of my screens went blank, my music stopped, and both my USB keyboard (Logitech G15) and USB mouse (Microsoft Habu) were unresponsive. The only course of action I could find was to hit the Reset button on my machine.
