Windows Defender Update error 0x80240029

Windows Defender cannot update itself and comes up with error code 0x80240029 when it tries. My copy of Vista Ultimate x64 is registered & comes up as validated when I download other microsoft stuff. The version of Defender is 1.1.1505.0
Apparently the error code 0x80240029 refers to some issue of licensing?
