In the past, more than a few persons who never seemed able to lose weight through traditional or even fad diets, sought medical ways to remove or reduce unsightly body fat. At one time Liposuction was thought to be the answer to an overweight persons dream.
The old conventional Liposuction surgical procedure was basically a way to vacuum unneeded fat cells. This could not be done where cellulite was present, thus limiting the often desired use of the surgical method. Furthermore and unfortunately, the conventional method of Liposuction had some real downside problems. Patients experienced some significant "down time" due to bruising, pain, scarring, lumpiness and uneven contours. Many persons who experienced conventional Liposuction also had significant problems with excessive loose skin and found the time needed to achieve anything near the desired and expected results longer than they had planned on.
Now there are new methods of Liposuction and one seems to me to be a big step forward. AML, which stands for Advanced Method (Matrix) Liposuction promises better results through a combination of pre and post treatment regimens. One of these is called mesotherapy which utilizes ultrasound together with something called laser lipolysis. Mesotherapy was invented or developed in the mid 1950's in France but the full use of the procedure has only recently been utilized. Part of this treatment is the injection just under the skin of certain homeopathic substances and vitamins to ensure that elimination of fat is concentrated in those areas. In effect it is a way to sculpt the body fat away in the areas most needing reduction. It is also said that mesotherapy treatment provides anti aging benefits through better skin tone and color.
Doctors have explained to me that once fat has been softened by the mesotherapy treatments laser lipolysis is used. I was not able to understand the very technical explanation of how laser lipolysis works but it was explained that it was like passing a hot knife lightly over the surface of butter.
Thus through these new technological improvements patients undergoing liposuction can expect to experience less scarring, less blood loss, even contours and targeted fat loss plus much improved skin appearance.
I must also state that the doctors took care to explain to me that no liposuction process should be used as a total replacement for regular dieting and exercise. In other words these procedures will not and should not be used with the expectation that habits of gorging or constantly overeating can be continued with plans for continued liposuction surgical procedures to be performed repeatedly in the future.
In light of these revelations and the fact that I have been able to lose almost 70 pounds in the last 10 months primarily by stopping snacking and minimal treadmill exercise I will delay any liposuction treatments of any type. I do have an area that my father has called my "dun lapped" area where excessive fat has slipped below my belt line. If this area continues to fail to experience necessary or proportionate fat reduction through normal dieting and exercise then the new form of liposuction is what I will seriously consider.
