I have upgraded to Vista home premium and I still cant system restore. I was also unable to do this on my previous XP. I go through the restore procedure and at the end it tells me that system restore was unsuccesfull and no changes have been made. 
Has anyone any suggestions for me to try?

I am looking to do a system restore on my Vista pc however I have downloaded shed loads of music and videos onto my sytem. Will I lose all these if I do a system restore back to "day one" ie the day I first ran my Vista system from new?

I have a friend's new Vista Home laptop (Acer) and what happened was when he turned the system on all the desktop icons have gone. I have gone through the normal route of adding them back in but nothing seems to happen. I have also tried System Restore to no avail.
