Removing Old Windows XP Files

Good Afternoon Everyone. This is my first post. I am sure that this has been answered already but I can't find it. What I would like to know is:- Can I remove Windows.old files and Directory which takes up 6.2GB on my C:/ drive . This the Old Windows XP installation.Or should I burn it to a DVD and save it for future use? I wish I had known about this forum before I bought my copy of Windows Vista Home Premium here in the Unite Kingdom.
Cost to us in the UK £150 for the upgrade. I have read with interest the article on Clean install and yes this does I am sure breaks the EULA but
when you see the cost it is not at all suprising that some will go this route. However back to my problem any help full person out there I need you.
