Lost dualboot after fresh XP install, MS article 919529 not helping!

Thu, 2007-04-05 12:01 - Topics:

I had XP installed, installed Vista on top of it and had a nice dual boot setup for a while. Had to install a fresh copy of XP (formattted drive C) (Vista resides on E), and now have lost the dual boot configuration. I followed this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919529/en-us

but it still just boots XP.

My question is, how do I modify XP so that it transfers control to bootmgr.exe instead of ntldr.exe? Can anyone help on exactly what happens when you have a dual boot and XP is your main drive? I'm interested in knowing how XP knows about the Vista boot menu.

I already did a few things on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927520 but nothing seems to be working, if any of you have a answer I could really use it!

The HDDs are Western Digitals and I think the Controllers are ok but Im not to sure...
