Today, July 10, is the anniversary of the death of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and more than a few other Warner Brothers cartoon characters. That is to say, the death of their original voices. On this day in 1989 Mel Blanc died from complications of heart disease.
One of the first things I did with Windows Vista is I turned the sound effects off. Lately, I haven't even had my speakers turned on. But recently I turned them on and found that every time I hovered my mouse over an area where I can make a selection (a pane that includes checkboxes, radio buttons, etc.), I get this quick, futuristic sound of a woosh followed by computery beeping. I went into the sounds control panel and saw that I still had the No Sounds theme, and there were no modifications in the list. I then played all sounds in c:\windows\media, and none of them matched. I then searched for all WAV files on my computer, selected all and played them in WMP (very entertaining), but none of those matched, either. I don't know what to do. If no one's familiar with this sound, perhaps someone knows of a way to see what sound is being called up by my computer in real-time or in some sort of log?
