secure sites

can't connect to secure sites

I am new to the forum and to vista
I have 2 computers in the house with vista and they won't connect to a secure site like hotmail ect
I am on dsl with telus and the same computers when on cable internet have no problems.???

I have just installed Vista. It will access the internet generally but when I try to access a secure site (such as Symantec updates, Bank, Hotmail it wont let me.These sites all used to have the old padlock on the bottom in XP. Any suggestions?
