Vista Performance Issues

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) 2.4ghz
Memory: 2gb Corsair DDR2800
Graphics: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768mb GDDR3
Motherboard: EVGA nForce 680i
Hard Drive: Western Digital 500gb, PartitionA-200gb PartitionB-300gb (So I could have a separate drive for storage away from windows drive)

I thought my computer would be pretty fast, and it was with Windows XP Pro. I installed the OEM version of Windows Vista Ultimate and after a few mishaps with incompatable programs giving me the blue screen of death got fixed it was running okay. But for some reason whenever I try to multitask (copy a file to another folder and browse the internet at the same time for example) everything just stops as if the system had to think about it for a minute before letting me do anything else. It does this with anything I do and it is starting to frustrate me.

My Windows Vista Conundrum(of doom)

Wed, 2007-02-28 11:38 - Topics:

Ok I am lost. I want to get vista, but heres the thing, I want that animated background extra that only comes with Vista ultimate(otherwise i'd go for home premium), but If I get vista ultimate, theres no way I'm buying the retail for that much money. So then I'd be getting the OEM, and then I'd be stuck with either 32bit or 64bit.

Now If I get 32bit, I might regret it later because I have a 64bit dual core cpu now, and I don't want to miss out on the performance enhancements the future will bring, so then I'd have to pay for another copy, and then i might as well have bought ultimate retail for even less. but then if I choose the 64bit version, I've heard that its slower right now and it might give me problems, so then I'd end up having to buy the 32bit version for the now, and end up paying more than ultimate retail again.

Should I Anytime Upgrade or buy OEM?

Hi, I very recently bought a new Dell PC, which came with Vista Home Basic edition (32 bit). I've quickly realised that I want the Ultimate edition!

I don't have the money to buy the retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate, so should I:

1) Buy the OEM 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate (about 120GBP with delivery from scan.co.uk)
2) Use Anytime Upgrade to upgrade my Home Basic to Ultimate (about 138GBP using Sony as the retailer)

Obviously looking at those prices, it would seem that buying the OEM version of Ultimate would be the best choice.

vista prices in the uk, why do we get such a good deal? no seriously why?

Home premium prices in the UK
oem = £67.66 ($132.12) / Full = £197.62($376.13)

USA prices
oem = $139.99 / full = $239.95

can somebody explain why in the UK we pay around the same for oem yet the full version is a $140 more expensive?

my only conclusion is that they know people in the uk will pay the money for a fancy new O/S alone but when people head to pcworld and see 2 pc's next to each other with the same spec but with just a difference in O/S(oem versions) and have to add an extra £70 onto the price of the vista pc for say a £299 pc, then buying the pc with vista becomes very questionable.

OEM - One Machine Only Forever?

Mon, 2007-02-12 09:58 - Topics:

Hello...regarding the OEM version of Vista Ultimate...from the EULA, it appears that you can only install it on one machine only..that is, only on that machine and never removing it to install to another PC...this hasn't changed I guess from other OEM versions of Windows in the past...however, like XP's activation "forgetting about you" in 6 months or so, will the same be for OEM vista? I don't plan on changing PC's but I may upgrade the motherboard a few months down the road...will that cause a problem?
