Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my processor to an AMD Athlon X2 6000+, which the price recently went down 50% on newegg.com. Does anyone know why it's $240 on newegg and still in the $400-500 on Tigerdirect and Microcenter? And will I see a difference if I upgrade to this processor now? I'm running Vista and have an Athlon X2 4200+. THANKS!

I think that if you look carefully (say on newegg.com) you should be able to order a vista upgrade for xp, in which case it is very easy.

I'm in the midst of building a new rig and now i'm looking for DVD Drives. While looking for drives at Newegg and MWave, I read the customer comments and I see several references to various drives not working out-of-the-box with vista. So now i'm thinking I can't just buy any old drive that appeals to me, I gotta get one that's "vista authorized". Problem is, I can't find any "list" of hardware that works with vista (ie; has a vista stamp of approval). Does such a list exist (and if it does can you please post a link)? What about HDD's? Do a need a "works with Vista" for those as well? Thanks
I am running a RAID 10 setup (4 500Gb Western Digital Drives) which is currently degraded due to 1 failed drive (waited for a replacement from NewEgg). I just did a clean install with Vista and when I tried to assign a drive code to the array I see that Vista has noted it as "Offline" which prevents me from assigned it a drive code. In XP, the array was degraded but was seen by the OS as "online" and allowed me to access the data. Any idea of anything I can do in the short term to access the data on this array while I wait for the new drive? Thanks for any ideas!
